surgical risk

My dog Buffy is 13 has diabetes and some elevated Liver enzimes. She recently scratched a mole on hr face and is stared to bleed. My vet has suggested surgery under a general anesthetic...
Any one else have diabet older dogs under go surgery? Of course Im worried about her.

Permalink Reply by Cath on April 26, 2010 at 6:42am: Hi My Jack Russell Minnie was diabetic -diagnosed at 4 years of age. She had surgery 15 months ago to remove cataracts.This was 100% successful. I believe the decision to operate on a diabetic dog rests a lot on whether the diabetes is regulated. Minnie had full blood works done beforehand ( she also had elevated liver enzymes which is common in diabetics ). Age is another factor in considering surgery re-anesthetic. So yes surgery is done on diabetics. They monitor blood sugar levels closely during the op.
