I bring dogs up from the south to be adopted in the north. I brought this one little pup named Lulu up. She was a normal pup in every sense of the word. Unfortunately she caught the latest strain of kennel cough that 2 dogs also came with. I lost a mom and 9 pups due to this new strain which is extrememly hard to fight. Anyhow back to Lulu. She got it and was very sick. We didn't know if she was going to make it. She was given a couple of antibiotics and unfortunately was allergic (we found out later) to try to keep her alive. Her side effect was not normal. Lulu became totally paralyzed and blind. It happened all of a sudden, she was fine one day and the next couldn't move. Everyone was telling me to put her to sleep but I looked into her big brown eyes and saw her soul. I couldn't do it. My friend and I basically did physical therapy on her legs. I bought rugs to put in my kitchen so she could have traction and bought her a quad wheelchair to try to get her to move. That was five weeks ago. Lulu has since graduated to a 2 wheel wheelchair and has regained her sight. Yesterday she decided she no longer wanted to use the chair and has started walking on her own. She can take about 10 steps, looks like she is drunk, then falls down. She gets right back up and starts all over again. She is sound asleep on my bed right now. Lulu amazes me. I know I made the right decision and pray she continues to progress.
