The Social Network for Dog Lovers

I can't say enough about this problem with puppy mills. It just makes me want to cry when I think of all the animals that come into this world that people think they can inbreed and sell for lots of money, when the unknowing owners get these puppies and they are sick or have some deformity. Most of these "back yard breeders" sell to puppy stores. I would never buy a puppy unless it was from a reputable breeder and I knew where it came from, like bloodlines. I, personally, would rescue a dog first. In order to stop this problem, in my opinion, we need to first make it known and educate people. I hope everyone will watch Oprah this Friday. She's a dog lover. I'm sure she understands how we feel about this.

I find myself going to the Animal Rescue Site everyday to 'click' for free food for animals and you can donate money to help sheltered dogs by buying items on their site. Other ways to help are the Humane Society. I get email newsletters from them and it's very heart-warming to realize all the people who are helping to ease this problem. Even though we can't change the laws, we can help in other ways.

I found this new site and posted it for anyone to look at www.smallpawsrescue.org You know I am a bichon momma and this is a nationwide rescue organization. I read some of the stories of puppy mill bichons and the pictures. I was so upset. How can only in their right humanly possible mind do that to any type of dog. My poor Tony was sitting on my lap when I was reading these stories and I just keep hugging him tighter and tighter. I realize people do not know necessarily where their dogs come from, but people need to do research and turn those places in before buying their animals.

I couldn't agree more. It's disgusting. I had a puppy when I was a kid who ended up being a puppy mill dog - we were heartbroken. He had so many problems and then he was really aggressive - when he bit first my five year old brother (who was NOT antagonizing him but was sitting reading a book when the dog lunged from ten feet away) and then my father, several times, my father made the decision to put him down. Between his health issues and the aggression, he couldn't feel comfortable with giving him away. This was a long time ago - in the early 80's when we didn't know as much about the options that can be available. We were all absolutely sick. He was such an adorable dog. I swore then and there that I would NEVER buy a puppy from anyone unless I knew they were reputable. And never from a pet store. Ick. I'll be watching Oprah!
