I promised to post this video ages ago, and never did. Partly because I couldn't convince Molly to let me show her "without hair, makeup, or adult behavior."
:-) She gets pretty emotional in the video (in a good way) and even cries a little because she loves Kanga so much. It was taken very early in the morning, and we had just rolled out of bed, so we both look a little messy.
It was Kanga's third time walking on the beach, she was three months old, and she was having a ball. She didn't care what we looked like.
Molly jokes that she regressed to age four in the video. She even talks like a child, and she doesn't normally. When I saw what an open state she was in, my journalist background made me ask her lots of questions that really "drew out" her emotions.
I finally got her to give me permission to post it. After all, the whole point of this site, and of my book and work, is to celebrate exactly the kind of heart opening she experienced that January day on the beach. She had just realized how badly she'd wanted a dog of her own, her whole life, and was so happy ... and so was I, to see it.
So while this is a very raw and intimate family video, I know that this community will understand and connect to it and be tender with her feelings. Dog lovers get it, right?
Both Molly and Kanga are beautiful. You are lucky to have the love of both of them. Thank Molly for sharing her feelings with us. She is so sweet and generous to show herself at such a vulnerable moment. What a dear soul she is.
James - This is a most unusual site, a place where dog lovers "let their hair down" and express their true feelings; a place where those who can not understand the love and the bond between a dog and human is missing out on the greatest emotion known on this earth. And, yes, I'll admit to letting much salt water flow when Igor, our mini Poodle had to be PTS due to severe spinal arthritis which overcame any and all painkillers. By the grace of God, we have a wonderful vet who came to our home to administer the final shots as I held Igor in my arms and said goodbye. For now, however, you and we can treasure every last moment of those unbelievably precious moments with those magical canines, just as I treasure the very seconds I'm with Remy, the blind Poodle we rescued and who would lay down his very life for me - which he proved by growling at the plumber as the plumber's drill banged away while remodeling the upstairs bathroom. Such is the loyalty of just one of our dogs. As was noted above, it is something truly magical, that indefinable bond between our four-footed family members and us; a bond that we'll once again close when we, too, cross that Rainbow Bridge and our loved furry family members who left us for a while run to meet us.

How beautiful and touching! You can tell that Molly is going through the healing process after the devistating loss of Maui and is learning to love again thanks to Kanga. Thank you for sharing the honest, the love and your new found joy.
This was a delight to see and share with you three. My dogs are my life now that I am retired and partially disabled. I live alone, as far as people go, but my life is rich with companionship and love from my 4 legged family. They take care of me as much as I do them. Thank you all for sharing those sweet moments.

Molly, if that is what you look like early in the morning then James you are a very lucky man. You have the sweetest smile and those dimples. Thank you for allowing James to share the video. One of your posters said some one is never more lovely than when they are loving their dogs. I COULDN'T AGREE MORE. Thank for the intimate look into your little family. P.S. I loved the look Kanga gave her "Mama" when the water finally reached her little paws. She looked up like she was asking what the heck was that! Simply priceless!
James, that is a wonderful & candid recording of your two beloved girls. Very sweet. Molly, thanks for allowing us to share your time with Kanga & James.
One thing I would like to ask you to do is to invest in a halter for Kanga. It is so much safer for their delicate little necks and you never know when she might be jerked by the neck either by her own movements or by unplanned movements by someone else or their dog. It will help in keeping Kanga from developing a collapsing trachea later in life. God Bless you all.
