Oprah is doing a show about puppy mills on Friday, April 4th. Please watch and go to her web site and sign the pledge to do away with puppy mills. I know we're all against this terrible injustice to animals! Let's make more people aware of this devistating problem.

I didn`t see the show but i have am aware of puppy mills they have found some shockers in Australia also. The other subject of pounds or rescue services putting animals down is also major.I am very happy to say our Animal Welfare League is aiming for a No Euthanasia Policy. They do not euthanaise any animal unless it is absolutely not rehomable because of servere health or maybe a dangerous animal,.they travel to other areas weekly to pick up animals from other pounds that do euthanaise so they are not put down, staff and volunteers are well known for fostering animals if they are over loaded.
The other subject that truly sickens me is these underground dog fighting rings, just recently a group has been busted that were using huskies, these sick sick people make these dogs fight until one kills the other. If i was a judge these people would be made suffer the cruelest death possible.

Just to be very clear, I want everyone to know that I am not against responsible breeders. I am trying to stop the puppy mills who are only after money and don't care about the animals or the breed. Only those people who stack hundreds of female dogs in crates upon one another and do nothing but use them as puppy makers without love, attention, excersize, or proper nurishment. These are the breeders I want shut down.

I respect those breeders who take care of their pets, love them, give them plenty of exersize, nutrition and proper care during their pregnancy.

This makes me so sad.......I would love to see something more done about it.
I would always rescue a dog before I would ever buy one from a puppy store.

I bought my peek-a-poo (my darling Amanda, who is gone now) from a pet store, before I heard about puppy mills. She was never a healthy dog and I'm pretty sure that she came from one of those dreadful places and that's why.
Sascha, my Bichon came from a home breeder who had the mom and dad and all the puppies in her home and who obviously loved them. Sascha's been the bounciest, healthiest pup right from the start.
Oprah's show was just rerun last week in this area and I thought it was pretty mild compared with some of the 'Animal Precinct' programs I've seen but it was still revolting. Those poor poor mother dogs! My problem is not that I'm horrified that puppy mill owners can treat dogs as regular livestock but that anyone can treat ANY living creatures that way. That's why I can't eat much meat any more, or battery chicken or eggs. I will not eat the product of torture. Maybe if we all took this stand, livestock laws and dog 'production' laws would have to change!
