I Remember Love

The Social Network for Dog Lovers

It is with a heavy heart that I
am writing to let you know that
Maui passed away today.

I thank you and everyone in our
community who has kept us in
your thoughts and prayers these
past few days.

I know that Maui was a little
part of a lot of people's lives.

I am going to disconnect from email
for a few days, but if you would
like to send your condolences or
words of support, please post a
comment below.

Please know that I will read all
of your kind messages when I
re-emerge sometime next week.

Again, many thanks for your
support and prayers this past week.
Molly and I (and most importantly,
Maui) felt them. Thank you from
the bottom of my heart.

Aloha,

James Jacobson

It's so hard when one loses a friend. There are no words that can help. Just know that each of our little ones take a piece of our heart when they leave and when we all meet in again in a kinder gentler place, we'll all be one again. My deepest sympathy to all.

Oh my God, James....I am so sorry. I have to tell you that not until Vyolet sent me your note a few days ago did I know about Maui. I am so glad you had a video so I could see her gorgeous face..(she was beautiful....really....if I didn't think so, I wouldn't even mention it)
I know what you are going through. It's so very, very, very painful, and that is the price we pay for loving dogs, but it's so worth having them in our lives. I know you feel that way. Thank goodness you are surrounded with dog lovers who are with you every step of the way...don't think we've stopped the prayers......I am still praying for your angel, Maui, who will wait for you at the Rainbow Bridge. You know that. Love, Chel My deepest and sincere condolences.

Dear James and Molly,
You are in my prayers, and thoughts. I know this is a very difficult time for you both. I have been where you are at, and all I can say is cherish those memories that you have of Maui. Talk about her. Her spirit will be in the place she loved the most, with the ones she loved the most. Take care. With deepest sympathy.

Dear James,

Little Maui will remain in our prayers. For you she was more than a dog. Maui was a companion and as such she deserves a period of mourning, but in that mourning don't forget to celebrate her life and all she was.

When we lost our first Shih Tzu, Zak in 1986 (May 18, 1986 to be exact) a very nice Veterinary Assistant, sent us a note which I have always remembered and somewhat cherished. I believe it came from "A Once and Future King" but I could be wrong. Here goes...

"We who choose to surround ourselves with lives even more temporary than our own, live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached. Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still would live no other way. We cherish memory as the only certain immortality, never fully understanding the necessary plan."

This is probably why I can continue to "Own" Dogs and Cats and why I recently paid a small fortune for surgery on a $25 Rabbit.

My heart is breaking for you in the loss of Maui I have been there and it is a horrible time in your life.
I'm so very sorry for your loss but know that Maui is at the Rainbow bridge and she is playing with all of the others that have gone before her and she is Happy and all healed. You will see her one day and you will all be together again. In Peace and Love .

A while back I attended a James Von Praagh meeting in which he demonstrated his psychic skills to a large group in a church. He said we could each be psychics for each other and so we tried to do this with the person sitting next to us, saying what came to us. Later those who wanted were asked to "share". A young man put up his hand saying he had come because he was so devastated by the recent loss of his German Shepherd. He said the woman sitting next to him said, "This may not make sense to you but a dog is telling me that you should not mourn his loss and that he loves you and is all right." I have never forgotten this. The young man was so in tears and so grateful for this. Love is eternal and souls continue on. As in the word exist is exit, so it is for us all.

I know you will miss Maui, a great soul, but do know Maui is always "there" for you.

Those who are left behind surely feel loss and I am so sad.

James and Molly,

I have found this poem by an unknown author to be very comforting when a beloved pet passes. I hope it will bring you some peace. Our thoughts are with you, and surely when the time is right, you will give another homeless shelter dog a wonderful life as a legacy to Maui's memory. Thank you for sharing her with all of us. God bless you!

I stood beside your bed last night. I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear.
"It’s me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here"
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea.
You were thinking of the many times your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, your arms were getting sore.
I want to take your parcels, I wished I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, you tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house as you fumbled for the key,
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said, "It's me".
You looked so very tired and then you sank into a chair,
I tried so hard to let you know that I was standing there.
It’s possible for me to be so near you everyday,
to say to you with certainty, "I never went away".
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew
That in the stillness of that evening I was very close to you.
The day is over.... I smile and watch you yawning
and say, " Good Night, Sweet Dreams, God Bless,
I'll see you in the morning".

And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide
I'll rush to greet you and we’ll stand together side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there's much for you to see

Be patient, live your journey out;
then come home and be with me.
