I am new and would like to share experiences with owners of Golden Retrievers. My name is Hearts and my dog's name is Lilli. She is 2 1/2 years young, born on Valentine's Day 2006!
Please join me in discussing your Golden Retriever Love...
I call my dog Lilli "Lilli Sweetnes and Light" as that is what she is. She is so smart and we are so connected it's totally amazing. Lilli and I live alone in my house in San Diego. We have our daily routines, and I have taught her words and phrases that sometimes I have to whisper to my Mom so that she won't think we are going 'outside' or 'playing ball', etc.
When my husband was alive, we had 4 Golden Retrievers. When he passed, one by one, each dog got sick (they were 16 years old with prior health issues) and had to be put down in an interval of about 2 1/2 weeks between each dog. My heart was broken. I never thought I'd have another pet.
Then I was MIS-diagnosed with cancer, and spent 10 months in my home with Hospice coming every week. I refused any treatment. I thought after losing my husband of 16 years, our dogs, and a Lilac Point Siamese cat that I had nothing to live for. After 10 months without a symptom, I demanded that they run another scan. The day before my birthday they came over to inform me that "oops, we made a mistake, you don't have cancer". Needless to say, I was going to live, but I had no life. Six months later, I decided to get a dog. I looked in the papers and there were many people with Golden Retriever puppies for sale. My Mom and I drove all over, looked at many puppies until we found a family who had bred their dogs and there were 9 puppies. I picked up 4 of them, held them up, looked at them in the eye and none did anything for me. I picked up one more puppy and when I held her up and looked her in the eyes, MAGIC happened. She happened to be the first out of 9 and the only female. I never let her go. That is how I connected with Lilli. I've been training her from day one, and it doesn't stop. As I said, she is very smart and intuitive.

Hello, Hearts! Welcome to I Remember Love. I have a Golden Retriever/mix who was 2 in May of 2008. She looks like a Golden, but has a brown nose and shorter ears. She definitely has the personality of a Golden. She is my first Golden. We adopted her from a shelter on Jan. 6, 2007. We love her dearly. She is so sweet, affectionate, faithful, smart, funny......and well you know all about Goldens. They are wonderful dogs! I would love to discuss Goldens with you. I am looking forward to it. Have a Great Day! GiftGirl
Thanks for asking me to be your friend, I need as many as I can get! The picture of you and your Golden mix is a little blurry. Please feel free to email me at hearts1@cox.net and this way we won't be limited in the pictures that we send each other (here you have to be in the picture for them to approve it).
I look forward to many great emails together. Sorry it took me so long to reply, but I've been sick and haven't turned on my computer for a few days!
This is my Third Golden Retriver Her Name is Ahava. She was born with a heart murmer. She is now 4 add is still active. She is my best friend and is always on my side. I can Never Let her Go.
Aloha,
Nina
I'm sorry about Ahava being born with a heart murmer, but she seems to have a strong spirit, as well as your closeness with her which has made her survive! Way to go! Goldens are remarkable animals. They are smart, affectionate, loving and only want to please you. All you have to do is train them (constantly), feed them good food, and most of all LOVE them. My Lilli is also always at my side. I hate leaving her alone, but it's too hot to bring her on all my errands. She used to have separation anxiety, but grew out of that (thank goodness)! She is the best companion I've ever had, and since we live alone, and I don't have any friends, she is my whole world.
If you'd like to email back and forth and share our Golden love with each other, please email me directly at hearts1@cox.net.
Hope to hear from you again!

I am sorry that it's been too long since I've logged on. You can email me directly at hearts1@cox.net which will go directly into my mailbox. Any questions or discussions you'd like to talk about, I'm all ears!
I'm so glad that you adopted your Golden/mix. What is her name? No dog, like a Golden or a Lab should ever be abandoned!! I will never adopt a dog from a shelter or pound because you never know why and what happened to the dog to end up there. Many behavorial problems can unravel once you get them home. How do you know that the dog has been eating good food, getting adequate exercise, and treated well.
I've attached some photos, but I'm having trouble trying to send this to you. Please bear with me.
