What is your dog's breed? (If you have more than one dog, please list a name followed by breed.)
Rusty my medical alert service dog, saves my life on almost a daily bases, he is a mix from the shelter, about 12 years old, dieing of an orange size tumor in his lung that has spred.
Spirit-my 5 month old golden retriever from a service dog training program, she will become my new service dog.
About Me:
I was an RN and worked on a pediatric floor at our local hospital. I became severely allergic to latex from the use of gloves. I now have an extremely life threatning allergy to latex, rubber, plants & trees and foods that are related to the rubber plant. I am 100% disabled because at anytime my throat can close in 30 seconds and I can not breathe. I go into shock on about a daily bases that requires Epinepherine. My dog can tell when my metabulism changes, like a low blood pressure, and alerts me. So I can get my meds before my throat closes. When he passes my life is in danger. When I am asleep and have an attack my airway will close but I do not wake up. My dog then jumps on me, digging into my chest, I get my husband and take Epi. He has saved my life over and over again.
What is one thing your dog does that reminds you to open your heart and love more deeply?
He was a shelter dog. We had a very close bond, when I got sick he started to take care of me. He apparently was watching what happened during these attacks and what I took to stop them. One day he grabbed an Epi-pen as I was starting an attack. He took on this job alone. We never seperate, he was licenced as a full working medical alert service dog with only two months training. My dog lives his life to protect me 24/7, he never leaves my side. He is my hero.
I just joined this site today. I think a picture of you and your dog went by and I clicked on it..... Your story touched me. I added Holly's dogster website address to my page. If you go there you will see more "beautiful" pics of her. She is my 2nd choc. lab. I lost my first girl 6 years ago at the age of 10. Good byes are so very difficult. Time helps and their always with you. Look at Holly's family and you'll see Maxine's pics. There are many wonderful dog stories out here.......
Take care,
Sally
